Toxic effects of dichlorovos on cardiovascular functions in rats.

2009
[Objective] To study the acute effects of dichlorvos on cardiovascular functions in rats.[Methods] Femoral artery and ventricle cannulation was performed prior to dichlorvos treatments for monitoring of physiological indications including systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, heart rate, peak left intraventricular pressure, and the maximum rate of rise of left ventricular pressure.Male Spraque Dawley rats were treated by intravenous injection with dichlorvos at the doses of 0(saline control),15,and 25 mg/kg.The parameters mentioned above were recorded at 0,15,30,45,60,75,and 90 minutes after treatment.[Results] There was a decrease in heart rate in 15 mg/kg and 25 mg/kg dose groups at different time points, and at the end of the study the heart rates decreased to 78 and 77 percent, respectively,of the pre-administration level(P 0.05).Systolic pressure decreased to 89 and 91 percent of the pre-administration leve(lP 0.05).The values of the maximum rate of rise of left ventricular pressure in 25 mg/kg group were significantly lowered at 90 min comparing to the pre-adminstrative level.Lateral comparison between the control group and dichlorvos treated groups at the same time points gave significant difference in systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, heart rate, peak left intraventricular pressure, and the maximum rate of rise of left ventricular pressure.Cardiovascular damages caused by the higher dose were more extended in time.[Conclusion] Dichlorvos can cause damages in the cardiovascular system, and the degree of damage correlates to dose.Among the parameters monitored, change in the maximum rate of rise of left ventricular pressure was more severe.
