Upper Extremity Infections

2017
Infections of the hand and upper extremity are frequently encountered in clinical practice. Because the hand is well vascularized, most infections in healthy patients can be treated successfully with antibiotics. Early recognition of patients who require surgical management for infections is imperative. Urgent, or emergent, treatment is indicated for immunocompromised patients, septic flexor tenosynovitis, and necrotizing fasciitis.
