Rapid excavation and tunneling conference. Proceedings. [1976 RETC proceedings]

1976
The growing demand for the use of the underground in urban areas and in energy development was the focus of the Third Rapid Excavation and Tunneling Conference held in Las Vegas June 14 to 16, 1976. The sessions concentrated on the practical problems which are being overcome by the engineering profession and construction industry in the use of the underground. Subjects included a look at some of the novel uses of the underground as well as current practice for tunnels, shafts, and large underground openings. Special subjects included excavation methods, support systems, rock mechanics methods, as well as soft ground and mixed face tunneling. The proceedings of the conference contain much important information in the continuing rapid advancement of the state-of-the-art in underground technology. Papers related to coal mining or energy storage or development have been entered individually into the data base. (LTN)
