The effect of electric field intensification on vanadium extraction from shale via microwave roasting-acid leching process

2021
Abstract In this work, simulations and actual experiments were combined to investigate the electric field (E-field) intensification on vanadium extraction from shale via microwave roasting-acid leching process. In microwave field, the highest E-field intensity occurred around the contact interface of adjacent shale particles and was about 40 times the value of a single particle. It enabled the contact interface to rapidly rise to 1800°C within 60 s. Between pure muscovite particles, the E-field intensification also occurred but there was no associated hot spot. The E-field intensification phenomenon in muscovite particles reduced the temperature of the decomposition reaction of muscovite by nearly 200℃ and increased the oxidation efficiency of V3+ by nearly 3 times. The hot spots accompanied by the E-field intensification in shale particles promote this enhanced effect and lowered the observing roasting temperature.
