COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TISSUE CULTURED (SELF-ROOTED) KINNOW AND ROUGH LEMON PLANTS WITH ORCHARD KINNOW (GRAFTED ON ROUGH LEMON ROOTSTOCK) & ROUGH LEMON PLANTS

2008
Kinnow and Rough lemon were successfully regenerated in to plants by ovular nucellar embryogenesis. The embryos were raised through nucellus, cultured on MS+  Adenine Sulphate (40mg/l).  After sub  culturing in  the same medium, the  emerging embryos were separately cultured on to MS+GA (1mg/l). The plantlets were transferred to pots. After one month weaning process, they were transferred to nursery. After 8 months of pot transfer, they were grown in the field. No pruning was done and no fertilizer given to these plants. After 10 years the vegetative and fruit characters were compared  with the orchard plants of the same age. Slight differences in the characteristics of the two types of plants were observed which reflect the natural variability already present within these cultivars.
