Comparative study on the phytochemical and free radical scavenging (antioxidant) activity of ethanolic extracts from different parts of Annona squamosa

2015
The present study aimed at the evaluation of prelim inary Phytochemical and free radical scavenging (Antioxidant) potential Annona squamosa L. plant and their correlation with the total pheno lic contents (TPCs). The free radical scavenging activity of ethanol extract s were assessed by 2, 2 ‑diphenyl ‑1‑picrylhydrazyl assay and TPCs by Ciocalteu method. The percentage radical scavenging ac tivities of samples were compared to the standard b utylated The leaf extract shown marked quantity of phenolics and promising free radical scavenging (antioxidant) activity followed by seed and root extracts. IC 50 value s for the scavenging activities of DPPH af, seed and root were 80 µg/mL, 790 µg/mL, and 980 µg/mL, respectively. Annona squamosa . L exhibited the leaf (0.114mg/g), seed (0.091 The reductive ability of the extracts was found to increase in a concentration dependent manner. suggested that the phenolic compounds in extracts a re most likely to be responsible for the observed
