The function of Mesothelin during rat islet architecture formation and remodeling

2009
The development of pancreatic islets of rats is divided into two phases: the early-medium phase and the late one.Predominant features are cellular proliferation and differentiation while architectural formation in the early-medium phase.Functional achievement are developed during the late-medium phase. The structural formation occurs during the phase of late embryo and the structural remodeling dose after birth. It is believed that the functional achievement of β-cells is regulated by migration of many kinds of cells and adhesion molecules.Among them Mesothelin which is expressed on the surface of β-cells is very important for recognition of information of cells and cellular adhesion.Mesothelin is also the surface maker of many kinds of malignant cells such as the cells of pancreatic carcinoma. The roles and significances that Mesothelin played in the process for formation and structural remodeling of islets of rats and in the development of pancreatic carcinoma are in investigated.
