Intussusception simulating rectal prolapse

2021
Abstract Intussusception is a common emergency of children, resulting in a mixed intestinal occlusion by obstruction and strangulation. The diagnosis which is often difficult must be done early as well as the treatment to avoid the risk of fatal complications. We report a series of four (04) infant with intussusception exteriorized through the rectum, aged between 4 and 24 months. They are all treated in our department. On the basis of clinical arguments, differentiation with rectal prolapse in this context is not always obvious. Hence the need to perform ultrasonography for early diagnosis. The treatment of these clinical forms, which is always surgical, should be guided by the patient's local and general conditions. The prognosis is worsened by the delay in diagnosis and treatment.
