Analysis of death causes in surveiiled population in Zhoushan area

Objective To analyse the total death causes of surveilled population in Zhoushan area during 1996 -2005. Methods Expected year of potential life lost (EYPLLP) was used to estimate premature death causes. Results Six leading premature-death causes were cancer, cardiovascular disease, unexpected injury,respiratory disease,infectious disease and digestive system disease. EYPLLP ranks were different from mortality ranks. Conclusions The proportion of chronic-disease-caused premature death reached more than 70% in total death causes, resulting in more than 55% of expected years of potential life lost. Chronic-disease-caused premature death was a severe public health problem in surveilled population.
