SHS in Ternary Ni–Al–Ti System

2021
The influence of mechanical activation (MA) and amount of added Ti on combustion synthesis in the ternary Ni–Al–Ti system was studied by XRD and SEM. For (Ni + Al) + хTi powder blends (x = 0–60 wt %), MA was found to diminish the number of phases in combustion product, elevates burning velocity U, and decreases combustion temperature T. An increase in x was accompanied by a decrease in the mean size of mechanocomposites. For x = 38 wt %, combustion products exhibited the presence of Ti2Ni, Heusler phase Ni2TiAl, and the signs of fusion, the Heusler phase being predominant for x = 24–38 wt %. Our results may turn interesting to those engaged in fabrication of Ni–Ti–Al alloys.
