Kinetics of ionization cooling of muons

The ionization cooling of muons is considered using the kinetic equations method. A comparison made between an efficiency of transverse cooling in the cases of attendant focus provided by a longitudinal current in cooling medium and by solenoid. The energy spread dynamics is analyzed by an account for straggling of ionization loss and dependence of its mean rate on particle energy.
