Respostas cardiovasculares a diferentes formulações do suplemento OxyElite Pro

2019
Background: OxyElite Pro (OEP) is a supplement sold with the goal of increase metabolism and improving physical performance. This supplement contains as its main ingredients caffeine and 1,3-dimethylamylamine (DMAA) that can act as stimulants. Several adverse effects, mainly in the cardiovascular system, have been reported after of consumption supplements containing DMAA and caffeine, however, these effects are related to overdose or unknown doses of these supplements and / or other factors. Objective: Evaluate the acute supplementation of the OEP with and without DMAA on hemodynamic responses in Wistar rats.  Materials and methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into four experimental groups: control, OEP-DMAA, OEP+DMAA and 2x OEP+DMAA. All groups submitted a single acute administration of OEP to evaluate hemodynamic responses. Results: Ingestion of 2x OEP+DMAA produced prolonged effects on MBP, SBP, DBP, HR and DP over time and that persisted up to 90 minutes after ingestion. On the other hand, the ingestion of OEP+DMAA presented a transient increase on hemodynamic responses in the time of 5 minutes, returning to the basal values rapidly after ingestion. Intake of OEP+DMAA showed longer increases only on HR and DP with 30 minutes remaining up to 90 minutes after ingestion. No effect was observed on hemodynamic responses after the use of the OEP-DMAA supplement. Conclusion: DMAA-containing OEP supplementation was able to increase hemodynamic responses of Wistar rats with a longer effect when administered at 2x OEP + DMAA doses.
