DUODENAL LIPOMA IN THE VICINITY OF THE PAPILLA OF VATER -A CASE REPORT-

1992
Duodenal lipomas are relatively rare, with the reports of 71 patients in Japan. We experienced a patient having a duodenal lipoma in the vicinity of the pappila of Vater. A total of 72 patients including this patient were investigated.A submucosal tumor in the descending part of the duodenum was accidentally found in a 75-year-old man at the time of an endoscopic examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Since the tumor was extremately near the papilla of Vater, it was resected under laparotomy. The resected specimen was 1.0×1.0×0.7 cm in size, and histologically, a duodenal submucosal benign lipoma. For the removal of these tumors, there has been a recent increase in the use of endscopic polypectomy, but surgical resection may still be necessary depending on the site, size and morphology of the tumors.
