Cosmic test of sTGC detector prototype made in China for ATLAS experiment upgrade

2019
Abstract After the Higgs particle discovery, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) will be upgraded in several phases allowing the luminosity increasing to 7 × 1 0 34 cm −2  s −1 . In order to adapt the ATLAS (A Toroidal Large Hadron Collider ApparatuS) detector to the high radiation environment, part of the end-cap muon system, the so-called SW (Small Wheel) will be replaced by the NSW (New Small Wheel). The NSW uses two kinds of detector technologies: sTGC (small-strip Thin Gap Chambers) and MM (Micromegas). The sTGC is developed, being produced and tested in the recent years. This paper describes the construction and the cosmic test of sTGC in Shandong University, focusing on its performance after integrating with the specific electronics.
