Analysis of urinary iodine in patients with thyroid tumor in Urmuqi

2013
Objective To investigate the relationship between thyroid nodal disease,Hashimoto' s thyrolditis and urine iodine in Urumqi. Methods A case-control study was done on 132 cases of thyroid nodal disease, and 47 cases of Hashimoto' s thyrolditis treated in Tumor Hospital as the case group, and 300 volunteers with normal thyroid function from the examination Center of the same hospital served as the control group. The urine iodine concentration was determined by using arsenic-cerium catalytic spectrophotometry. Results The mean urinary iodine in the case group with thyroid nodal disease was (294.06 ±132.4) μg/L,and there were 63 cases of excessive iodine intake (urinary iodine > 300 μg/L),accounting for 47.7% (63/132).The mean urinary iodine level in Hashimoto' s thyrolditis group was (306.74 ±211.85) μg/L,and there were 21 cases of excessive iodine intake (urinary iodine >300 μg/L),accounting for 44.7% (21/47).The mean urinary iodine in control group was (161.40 ± 125.25) μg/L,and there were 30 cases of excessive iodine intake (urinary iodine > 300 μg/L),accounting for 10% (30/300).The excessive iodine intake levels in the two case groups were higher than in the control group (P < 0.05).Conclusion The iodine nutritional status in patients with thyroid nodal disease and Hashimoto' s thyrolditis is better than the general population, and there is a relationship between the thyroid-related diseases and excessive iodine intake.
