Clinical Study of Femoral Intertrochanteric Fractures in the Elderly Treated with Traction Reduction and Locking Compression Plates

2010
Objective:To evaluate the effect of traction reduction and locking compression plates(LCP) for the treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. Methods:From February 2008 to May 2009,41 old patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures were treated with traction reduction and LCP internal fixation. The therapeutic effect was investigated based on the preoperative and postoperative hip X-ray film and post-operative recovery of joint function. Results:Patients were followed up for 6 to 13 months,9 months averagely.Excellent effect was observed in 34 cases and good effect in 7 cases according to Harris scores. Conclusion:Traction reduction and LCP has a preferable clinical value in the treatment of aged patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture, especially those with osteoporosis.
