DO classical gamma‐ray bursts repeat?

2008
If classical GRBs were shown to repeat, cosmological models involving merging neutron stars inside galaxies would in effect be ruled out. We investigate the question of burst repetition by searching for the corresponding signal in the correlation function and nearest neighbor distribution. We analyze data for 742 γ‐ray bursts observed with BATSE. Preliminary results derived from this study do not support the recent claim by Lamb & Quashnock that a significant fraction of bursts repeat on time scales less than ∼1 year.
