Investigation into control performance of Brushless Doubly Fed asynchronous machines in wind energy conversion systems

2015
This paper presents an investigation into the power control in a Brushless Doubly Fed Induction Generator as an alternative for variable speed wind energy production. In fact, this machine combines the advantages of the doubly fed induction generator and squirrel induction machine. The main advantage of this machine is the absence of brush-collectors and the ability to work under variable wind speeds. However, the control of the produced power and its flow to the grid is not simple. The machine is modeled as a high order MIMO system with highly coupled terms and the model parameters are functions of the operating speed. The aim of the paper is to propose a simple control method of the produced power by the BDFM.
