The physical map of the Caenorhabditis elegans genome.

1995
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the physical map of the Caenorhabditis elegans Genome. The clone-based physical map of the 100-Mb C. elegans genome consists of 13 mapped contigs, totaling in excess of 95 Mb and two significant unmapped contigs totaling 1.3 Mb. The map carries 600 physically mapped loci, of which 262 have genetic map data. The physical mapping has been collaboration between the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, United Kingdom, and Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. The physical map constructing and editing uses the programs IMAGE and CONTIGC. The read-only version PMAP has been almost entirely superseded by incorporation of the physical map data into A Caenorhabditis elegans Data Base (ACeDB). The ACeDB display of the physical map is currently very similar to that of PMAP with some exceptions. A useful function available in PMAP that is not currently incorporated into ACeDB is the ability to position computationally the “buried” class of cosmid clones (CONTASS).
