Effect of Lorentz force on the conversion efficiency of Ni doped ZnO nanotwins based DSSC with Chitosan polymer electrolyte

2020
Power conversion efficiency (PCE) of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is studied here for a diluted magnetic semiconducting (DMS) material Ni:ZnO nanotwins based photoanode with chitosan polymer electrolyte. It is found that the doping of a magnetic impurity (Ni2+) in the nonmagnetic system (ZnO) enhances the charge transport rate and hence the electronic conductivity to yield a PCE of 2.05% which is about twice that of the undoped ZnO. Furthermore, when a field of 100 Oe is applied in the 5% Ni doped DSSC device delivers PCE of ∼2.16%. It is found that the Lorentz force reduced the reflection of solar light for better PCE.
