Médicos de primera línea de atención infectados por COVID-19 durante un brote hospitalario en Veracruz, México

BACKGROUND: The current COVID-19 pandemic has affected health workers, some estimates mention more than 90,000 affected, even with deaths throughout the world OBJECTIVE: To determine the number of physicians of first care of patients with COVID-19 that were infected, their risk factors and their clinical manifestations MATERIAL AND METHOD: A descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional study performed from April 1 to May 31, 2020 analyzing the cases of front-line doctors infected with COVID-19 in the General Hospital 71 Lic Benito Coquet Lagunes of the city and port of Veracruz, dependent on the Mexican Institute of Social Security RESULTS: Seven doctors were entered into the study, with an average age of 42 4 years, all of them male The identified risk factors were overweight/obesity (85 7%), previous viral infections (42 8%), diabetes (28 5%), hypertension, dyslipidemia and drug addiction (14 2% each) The main symptoms/signs were: fever (100%), myalgia/arthralgia (71 4%), cough (57 1%), chest pain (57 1%), anosmia/dysgeusia (42 8%) and attack on the general state (42 8%) CONCLUSIONS: The present cohort of doctors affected by COVID during a hospital outbreak shows that there are several factors to take into account, on the one hand, factors specific to the population (obesity, diabetes, hypertension), as well as the institutions that are in charge of medical personnel;they must identify the risk factors mentioned, influence them and protect this population that is vulnerable per se to a pandemic (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] ANTECEDENTES: La actual pandemia de COVID-19 ha afectado a trabajadores de la salud, algunas estimaciones mencionan mas de 90,000 afectados, incluso con defunciones en todo el mundo OBJETIVO: Determinar el numero de medicos de primera atencion de pacientes con COVID-19 que resultaron infectados, sus factores de riesgo y sus manifestaciones clinicas MATERIAL Y METODO: Estudio descriptivo, analitico y transversal, efectuado del 1 de abril al 31 de mayo de 2020, en el que se analizaron los casos de medicos de primera linea de atencion infectados de COVID-19 en el Hospital General de Zona 71 Lic Benito Coquet Lagunes de la ciudad y puerto de Veracruz, dependiente del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social RESULTADOS: Ingresaron al estudio siete medicos, con edad promedio de 42 4 anos, todos del sexo masculino Los factores de riesgo identificados fueron sobrepesoobesidad (85 7%), infecciones virales previas (42 8%), diabetes (28 5%), hipertension, dislipidemia y toxicomanias (14 2% cada una) Los sintomas-signos principales fueron: fiebre (100%), mialgias-artralgias (71 4%), tos (57 1%), dolor toracico (57 1%), anosmiadisgeusia (42 8%) y ataque al estado general (42 8%) CONCLUSIONES: Esta cohorte de medicos afectados de COVID durante un brote hospitalario demuestra que son varios los factores a tomar en cuenta, por un lado factores propios de la poblacion (obesidad, diabetes, hipertension), asi como las instituciones que tienen a su cargo personal medico deben identificar los factores de riesgo comentados, incidir en ellos y proteger a dicha poblacion que es vulnerable per se ante una pandemia (Spanish) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] Copyright of Medicina Interna de Mexico is the property of Colegio de Medicina Interna de Mexico and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission However, users may print, download, or email articles for individual use This abstract may be abridged No warranty is given about the accuracy of the copy Users should refer to the original published version of the material for the full abstract (Copyright applies to all Abstracts )
