Fourth and Fifth Tarsometatarsal Degenerative Joint Disease Management

2019
Arthritis in the fourth and fifth tarsometatarsal (TMT) joints is an uncommon but challenging problem to treat. As the mobile portion of the lateral column of the foot, the 4th and 5th TMT joints are responsible for forefoot accommodation to uneven ground during ambulation. Since the lateral column is more mobile than the medial column, a 4th and 5th TMT resection arthroplasty and tendon interposition is an excellent technique for lateral column pain and arthritis in active patients.
