Cancer incidence and age distribution in women

2010
Objective To describe incidence and age distribution of foremost cancers in women, and to provide references of prevention for the cancer. Methods All cases of cancer identified by 4 surveillance areas in Chongqing during 2001-2005 were available for analysis. The International Classification of Diseases 10.0 was used to code and classify the reported cases. The crude incidences, percentage and age distribution were calculated. Results In 2001-2005,the crude incidence rate of female cancers was 410.6/105.According to incidence, the top 10 cancers were bronchus lung, breast, rectum, cervical, colon, ovary, liver, stomach, corpus uteri and oesophagus. In 2005,breast cancer was the most common cancer instead of bronchus lung cancer, occupying 17.6% of all female cases. The median ages at diagnosis of women with cervical cancer, ovary cancer, breast cancer and corpus uteri cancer were 43.0,48.9,50.0 and 53.0 years old respectively, and the 5th percentiles of ages were 29.0,22.0,34.2 and 35.7 years. Conclusion The impact of breast and cervical cancer on women′s health was becoming more prominent. In light of the age distribution of the incidence of breast and cervical cancer, the screening should be carried out early. In detail, the screening for breast cancer should be no more than 35 years old of women, and for cervical cancer should be no more than 29 years.
