Analysis of clinical effect of bipolar artificial femoral head replacement for elderly patients with femoral neck fracture

2013
Objective To investigate the clinical application of bipolar prosthetic replacement of aged patients with femoral neck fracture. Methods A retrospective study was conducted and 77 hospitalized patients of aged over 76-years-old with femoral neck fracture hospitalized from March 2009 to February 2011 were selected as our subject, who underwent bipolar prosthetic replacement for the treatment. The information related to the operation procedures, preoperative and postoperative announcements were collected. The hips function by Harris Hip Score was used to assess clinical effectiveness of treatment. Results All subjects were showed with primary stage healing. The main complications included osteoporosis (10 cases),heterotopic ossification (1 case),acetabulum wear(5 cases),prosthesis looseness (5 cases),pulmonary infection (2 cases) and deep vein thrombosis(5 cases). All patients were follow-up for more than one year and all were showed in basic recovery activities compared with that of before the injury. The average score of Harris score in bone cement group 24 cases was (86.10 ±4.21),non bone cement group 53 cases was (83.23 ± 2.46).Conclusion Bipolar prosthetic replacement for femoral neck fracture was an effective method in aged patients, which could significantly reduce the mortality of aged patients with femoral neck fracture, and improve life quality obviously.Strict preoperative evaluation and exact microsurgical techniques were the key point regarding of obtaining excellent outcomes.
