Laparoscopic-assisted right colectomy for cancer is a new surgical procedure. This article discusses the indications, technique, complications, and costs associated with this procedure in the primary treatment of colon cancer. At this time, the adequacy of laparoscopic-assisted right colectomy for cancer remains unclear. Concerns regarding the extent of resection and possible increased incidence of abdominal wall, local, and wound recurrences are addressed.
