Giant Digital Schwannoma: Successful Outcome at a Peripheral Surgical Centre

2021
Peripheral nerve sheath tumors including schwannomas are uncommon soft tissue tumors presenting in upper limb comprising less than 5%. Multiple and multifocal schwannomas have a syndromic association. Digital schwannomas are rare slow-growing masses. They are often misdiagnosed due to chronicity of symptoms and being asymptomatic. Imaging helps in diagnosis and planning surgery but fails to differentiate between schwannoma and neurofibroma. Surgical excision with loupe magnification achieves a favorable outcome without functional compromise. The final diagnosis is by histopathological examination. This case report depicts a rare case of digital schwannoma on tip of little finger, diagnosed and managed without any residual deficit at a peripheral surgical center.
