Influence of powder ingredients on mechanical properties of sintering process in 3D laser printing

2017
To achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability and to remain competitive, manufactuiing companies are shifting their focus from classical manufacturing to additive manufacturing (AM). This additive manufacturing way of making parts is also called rapid prototyping or rapid manufacturing. AM innovation is predicted to be an important part of future manufacturing as complicated part geometry and accuracy of it will not be an issue in future. There are various AM processes which are varying on the basis of material that is utilized in them. This Paper will address how the variations in the components of the powder will effect on the mechanical properties of the end product made by Laser sintering. In this paper, a methodology to design and perform experiments by changing the powder ingredients has been proposed. Changing the ingredient in the mixture of the powder is a new concept and it is different than traditional method of studying mechanical properties in SLS. Powder ingredient variations approach will be good in terms of finding the optimum parameters of the final part at which the mechanical properties of the product will be achieved. To validate the research case studies will be conducted in future works where the mechanical properties of the different parts will be compared that are made from various resins using SLS technique.
