X-ray study on shock loaded AISI 304 steel

1991
Abstract AISI 304 steel after explosive deformation has been studied in a non-destructive way by means of X-ray diffraction techniques. Experimental results show the formation of α′-martensite and of work-hardening structures in the austenitic phase with a pronounced texture and inhomogeneous strain distribution on different crystalline planes. The measured values of dislocation and stacking fault densities, average crystallite size and α′-phase volume fraction are in good agreement with TEM observations reported in the literature.
