Variables Influencing the Calibration of Specific Force Coefficients

2015
Abstract The accuracy of mechanistic models is mainly related to precise determination of cutting force coefficients. The cutting force coefficients are obtained from measured cutting force data from previous machining tests. The calibration procedure of these cutting coefficients is of key importance for a precise cutting force model. The aim of this paper is to analyse the proper conditions required to obtain a good estimation of the cutting force coefficients and the effect of any variation on this estimation. In this paper, a model based on the average chip thickness of the engaged flute is used for peripheral milling. The cutting force coefficients are modelled as varying parameters of the position angle. The influence of chip thickness, tool geometry and tool wear is analysed in the calibration procedure.
