Diagnostic value of spiral CT for acute appendicitis

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of spiral CT in acute appendicitis.Methods: CT manifestations of 34 cases of appendicitis surgically and pathologically confirmed were retrospectively analyzed.Results: CT findings of appendicitis were as follows: enlarged appendix with thickened wall(15 cases),signs of inflammation of right lower quadrant or localized abscess in pelvis(26 cases),such as fat line thickening,fluid collection around bowels,extra-luminal air,lymph node enlargement and adjacent bowel wall thickening,blocks of stercorolith.Localized thickening of wall of cecal apex(6 cases),blursing shadow of right psoas major(4 cases).Conclusion: Spiral CT is an effective means in diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
