The Registration System of Ocular Trauma

Ocular trauma is one of the major causes of monocular blindness in working-age population, seriously affecting the quality of life and psychological status of the injured. Human earliest description of eye injury was found in ancient Egypt 1553–1550 bc, ophthalmology is also accompanied by human eye injury gradually developed. It is under the impetus of these ophthalmic instruments and technologies, the treatment of ocular trauma has entered an unprecedented stage of development. In 1997 with the joint participation of ophthalmologists in 19 countries, the ocular trauma system named BETT was launched. The promulgation of ocular trauma system nomenclature has promoted the exchange of eye trauma research in the world, making clinical studies of ocular trauma in different regions and countries comparable to each other and also exposed many controversies and questions in the field of ocular trauma research. This chapter will introduce the eye injury registration which can comprehensively help ophthalmologists enhance the technique of prevention and treatment of eye injuries, and provide data to support eye trauma research.
