The Gamma nail was born in 1980 as an evolution of the ideas of G. Kuntscher. Forty years before he had developed an “Y” nail for the treatment of pertrocantheric fractures. The Gamma Standard was developed from the Strasbourg Orthopaedic school in 1988 and in a few years good results were reached. In 1997 the TGN (Trochanteric Gamma Nail) was developed as the first evolution of the Gamma Standard. In 2003 the third generation appeared — the Gamma 3 — and completely substitued the old versions.
