Desigualdad y evasión en el transporte público de Santiago: aproximación etnográfica al Transantiago.

2021
This article is based on an ethnographic research carried out in the bus transport system of the city of Santiago in Chile, during 2018. The objective was to understand fare evasion behavior from the perspective of the different actors involved in the system. The stories and experiences analyzed allow us to sustain that evasion is a behavior accepted by the different social actors, based on a social conception where the perception of inequality prevails in the city. These results put into question the predominant perspective in evasion studies, focused on the rational dimension of behavior (cost / benefit), as well as the notion of atomized and indifferent individuals, frequent in urban studies on metropolitan cities.
