Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been proved to be an important risk factor of primary liver cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Loomba et al. indicates that family history of HCC multiplies the risk of HCC at each stage of HBV infection. The family history of HCC might not be related to the occurrence of CCA. However, the original study conducted by Kamalapirat et al. also assesses the risk factors for HCC development, not for CCA. Hence, the family history of HCC should be discussed in the enrolled population.
