Surveilans Polio Lingkungan Untuk Memonitor Sirkulasi Vaccine Derived Poliovirus (VDPV)

2020
Background : Polio immunization program using oral polio virus vaccine (OPV) succeed in stopping more than 99% of the poliovirus circulation in the world . Despite the advantages, OPV has a negative impact as source of vaccine derived poliovirus (VDVP) which cause paralysis. VDPV circulates in the environment and cause the outbreak after eradication. The poliovirus circulation in the environment should be monitored through surveillance from  wastewater containing human feces both from wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) or open canal. The wastewater samples are examined using the WHO guidelines. Methods : Literature review using electronic database in google scholar with keywords "Environmental surveillance and VDVP outbreak" that published in 2010-2020. The aim of this study is to identify type of VDPV circulated globally, countries with VDPV and strategy to detect VDPV in environment. Result :. Until 2019-2020, VDPV type 2 frequently occurred than type 1 and 3. There are 26 countries found VDPV globally. Location, method of sample collection, sample management and laboratory capacity have very important role for successfulness of environmental surveillance to detect VDPV. Conclusion : Poliovirus circulation including VDPV can be monitored through Polio environmental surveillance. Key words : polio environmental Surveillance, vaccine derived poliovirus, polio outbreak
