Mammae erraticae : three cases for consideration

1995
Accessary mammary tissue (AMT) is a minor cutaneous abnormality usually located along the embryonic mammary lines which run from axillae to the inner surface of the thighs. Ectopic AMT accounts for about 10% of cases and may occur anywhere on the skin. We report three Caucasian patients presenting with mammae erraticae characterized by unusual associated findings. Case 1: a 28-year-old woman with a pseudomamma on the right subclavicular region and with a family history of AMT in her father and two sisters. Case 2: a 25-year-old man with two pseudomammae one located ectopically on the left subscapular region and another on the left mammary line. Case 3: a 52-year-old woman with polythelia on the midsternal line and the concomitant presence of nephro-urinary defects. Ecographic evaluation of AMT of each patient excluded the presence of grandular tissue. The significant association between AMT and nephro-urinary defects indicates the need for a careful investigation of subjects affected with ectopic AMT
