Quantum Dot-Based Drug Delivery for Lung Cancer

2019
Abstract Lung cancer, one of the most prevalent cancer types around the world, is the main source of malignancy-based deaths worldwide. Conventional treatment for lung malignancy is related with the absence of specificity and access to the typical cells bringing about cytotoxicity, diminished drug resistance, cellular uptake, and rapid drug clearance from the body. The development of quantum dots as a novel drug-delivery system has revolutionized the treatment of lung malignancy. This chapter highlights the different aspects of lung cancer, such as its etiology and symptoms and the different perspectives of various nanomaterials for the treatment of lung carcinoma. In addition, it addresses the fascinating features of quantum dots, such as their characterization, characteristics, surface decoration, and the applicability of quantum dots in cancer diagnosis, drug delivery, in vitro and in vivo imaging, cancer targeting, and the intriguing role of quantum dots in ensuring effective lung cancer treatment.
