Ultra-wideband Dual-Polarized Scanning Meta-material / Meta-ferrite Arrays*

This paper presents the design and measured results for an ultra-wideband aperture with excellent gain-bandwidth-scanning performance across a 190–2300 MHz bandwidth. The aperture uses a meta-material frequency selective surface to achieve $+/-$ 60-degree scanning, and we present plans for incorporating a low loss MetaFerrite substrate in future versions. Finite simulations show that introducing ferrite substrates can reduce either the minimum frequency or the aperture thickness by a factor of 2 or more vs the current design.
