Amyloidosis AL. Case study

2017
Amyloidosis is a heterogeneous group of protein misfolding diseases characterized by deposition of insoluble amyloid proteins in extracellular space that may cause organ dysfunction and insufficiency. The organs most frequently affected in amyloidosis are kidneys, which are involved in 50–80% of amyloidosis AL cases and 97% in amyloidosis AA at the moment of diagnosis. We present a case of 56-year-old female patient with proteinuria that was finally diagnosed with primary AL amyloidosis of kidney and heart.
