Viability examination of bacillus sphaericus encapsulated in hydrogel for self-healing concrete

2020
In bacteria-based self-healing concrete technology, encapsulation of bacteria before addition into concrete is a critical stage of the approach. In this article, endospore production of Bacillus sphaericus LMG 22257 was optimized. The viability of bacterial endospores after being encapsulated inside a chitosan modified hydrogel was studied. A microcalorimetry test showed that bacterial endospores can germinate and grow after encapsulation in the hydrogel.
