A comparative study of the recovery situation between laparoscopic cholecystectomy and open cholecystectomy in elderly patients with gallbladder diseases

2005
Objective To compare the recovery situation between laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and open cholecystectomy (OC) in elderly patients with gallbladder diseases,in order to provide reliable clinical basis for choosing operation types. Methods 120 elderly patients with gallbladder diseases who could bear the whole body anesthesia were divided randomly into two groups:LC group (n=60) and OC group (n=60).The preoperative and postoperative parameters, including the recovery time of stomach and enteric function, transfusion time,stay-in-bed time,stay-in-hospital time were observed and compared. At the same time, the recovery parameters, including maximum oxygen-consumption (bicycle riding test),function recovery of abdomen muscle (straight-leg-raising test,sit-up) were also observed and compared for both groups. Results The postoperative parameters and rehabilitation parameters in LC group were significantly superior to those of OC group (P0.01).The rehabilitation parameters 2 weeks after operation in LC group returned to the levels before operation (P0.05),however,the rehabilitation parameters 2 weeks after operation in OC group didn't return to the levels before operation (P0.01).Conclusion The rehabilitation after LC operation is superior to that of OC operation in elderly patients with gallbladder diseases.
