Development of a novel (Ni40Fe30Co20Al10)90Ti10 high-entropy alloy with excellent photocatalytic performance

2020
Abstract Herein the decoloration of methyl blue (MB) using as-milled and homogenized (Ni40Fe30Co20Al10)90Ti10 HEA powders was investigated to explore and expand functional properties of high-entropy alloys (HEAs). Compared to the homogenized state, the as-milled HEA (A-HEA) powders exhibit a superior photocatalytic performance. The hybrid structure comprising face-centered cubic solid-solution (β) and amorphous phase (α) promotes the unique visible light photocatalytic performance of the A-HEA, owing to the easy transfer of electrons at the α-β interface and more severe lattice distortion in β phase. Moreover, the A-HEA bears a good cyclic stability towards degradation of MB, which is explained by the activation of stacking fault and twin boundary.
