Effects of hyperbaric oxygen on neurologic impairment and expression of HIF-1a in brain of rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion

2010
Objective To investigate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO)on neurologic impairment and expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1a(HIF-1a)in brain of SD rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.Methods 30 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups:sham-surgery group, model group and treatment group.Using method of pluging thread into middle cerebral artery, rat models of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion were made. The volume of infarction was observed by TTC staining, neurological impairment was valued by ethology score and the level of HIF-1a protein expression was measured by Western blot in every group. Results Compared with model group, the volume of infarction, neurological impairment and the level of HIF-1a protein expression were reduced significantly in treatment group(P0.05).There was no significant difference in the level of HIF-1a protein expression between sham-surgery group and treatment group(P0.05).Conclusion HBO may play an important role in neuroprotection by reducing the level of HIF-1a protein expression.
