Ozone Effects on Chlorophyll Content and Lipid Peroxidation in the in Situ Leaves of Winter Wheat

2005
Effects of ozone on chlorophyll content and Lipid peroxidation and anti-oxidation system in the in situ leaves of winter wheat in an open-top chamber(OTC-1).The results revealed that as the ozone concentration increased, the leaves of wheat increased their chlorophyll contents and changed their chlorophyll composition in various stages of wheat growth and this appeared remarkable at the seed-filling stage;the relative electric conductivity and MDA content of the leaves increased and the CAT and POD activities and the carotinoid content declined;the SOD activity increased where the ozone concentration was below 1×10~(-7)(φO_3) and sharply declined where the ozone concentration rose above 1×10~(-7)(φO_3).Accordingly,it can be seen that ozone promotes wheat leaves to age, intensify the damage to their membrane lipid, and imparir the function of their anti-oxidation system,in such a way exerting influence on their regular physiological metabolism.
