Prescribed Medications: The New Wave of Opioid Dependence

Australia has experienced a marked increase in opioid use in the past five to ten years, and we almost certainly have more opiate users now than at any time in our history. Australia is following several other western societies in this regard - most notably the USA, which is experiencing not just increased pharmaceutical opioid use, but also increases in prescription drug-related hospitalisations and deaths.
