Target ion source systems at the Orsay isocele 2 separator

1981
Abstract We present a general survey of the various target experiments performed with the new ISOCELE 2 separator, on-line with the improved Orsay synchrocyclotron (present intensities: up to 2 μ A -200 MeV p , 1 μ A -283 MeV 3 He ). We use a versatile plasma ion-source of the Bernas-Chavet type, with the target inside the arc chamber. Results and tests on various melted metal targets are described; chemical evaporations and reactions in the ion-source are obtained by addition of reactive gases. Particularyly, we exploit isobaric separations on mono or difluoride molecular ion-beams. For instance, the first selective on-line separation of neutron deficient La isotopes were observed with this process. Difluoride La ion-beams show a very weak mixing with Ba and Cs isotopes.
