SUMMARY Acute herpetic gingivostomatitis is the most frequent pattern of primary herpetic infection symptomatic. It is observed most commonly in 1-5 year old children, and it has been seen in adolescents and young adults too. We report the characteristics clinical aspects of this infection in an adult, showing the importance of the dentist in the diagnosis and the specific care necessary to prevent its transmission.
