Analysis on drug sensitivity and genotype of clinical strains of pathogenic candida from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis

2004
Objective To evaluate the drug sensitivity and genotype of candida strains isolated from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis. Methods Five hundred and eighty-nine strains of yeasts isolated from patient with relapsing vulvovaginal candidiasis were identified using the API Candida system. The antifungal sensitivity tests were performed with ATB Fungus strips.Genotype analysis of147miconazole-sensitive candida albicans isolates and60miconazole-resistant isolates was conducted with ERIC-PCR method. Results Candida albicans was the dominant pathogen accounting for82.7%,and Candida glabrata accounted for12.7%of infec-tion.Candida species showed a high cross-resistant rate to econazole, ketoconazole and miconazole. And almost all candida species were sensitive to nystatin. The same ERIC-PCR profiles were found in miconazole-sensitive candida albicans isolates and miconazole -resistant isolates. Conclusions Species identification and antifungal sensitivity tests should be performed before candidasis therapy, however nystatin could be used in relapsed pa-tients without drug sensitivity tests.[
