Brain catecholamines and serotonin in rapid sleep deprivation

1969
Abstract Twelve days of rapid sleep deprivation in cats produced an increase of dopamine in the midbrain tegmentum. This was interpreted as resulting from a compensatory mechanism to secure sufficient quantity of the precursor necessary for an over production of noradrenalin consecutive to the prolonged activity of the mesodiencephalic arousing neurons.
