Bone Scintigraphy in a Case of Oncogenous Osteomalacia

1998
A 67-year-old man was admitted because of lumbar and knee pain. Bone scintigraphy revealed multifocal lesions of increased activity. Laboratory data showed hypophosphatemia, decreased 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin-D3 levels, and elevated alkaline phosphatase levels. Roent-genograms and CT scans disclosed a rib tumor, and surgical removal of the rib tumor revealed a phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor. The patient improved clinically, and laboratory values returned to normal. Repeated bone scintigraphy 11 months after surgery revealed markedly improved findings.
